Well it has been a loooong while since I started them but finally I have finished my 1st battalion of the Pavlov grenadiers. Sorry for the quality of the pictures as I am still taking pictures under my painting lamp and dull house lights (energy savers aye!!!).
Not much to say as I have already posted the figures pretty much finished in my last post.
Every army of the period has a unit we all know and want to paint. The French have plenty (Dutch lancers, Polish lancers and pretty much all of the guard) the Prussians have the Lieb Hussars, the Brits the 95th rifles and what Russian army of the Napoleonic period is complete without the Pavlov grenadiers?
I don't think they came out as well as the other grenadiers I completed however I am still very happy with them.
I wasn't so happy with my converted officer at 1st however now that he is painted up he looks fine, his tash came out very well.
I managed to avoid the 1812 kiwer (shako) in the ranks of my Pavlovs. My shading is a little heavy in areas however I didn't really have much time to spend on them so I did what I could an hour at a time.
I used the GW foundation red (like a brick red) on the rear of the mitre so as to differentiate it from the red of the collar etc.
The highlight of a lighter gold was totally pointless on the badges at the back of the mitre and with the 2nd battalion I will just leave them the base gold as the AP gives it enough shade.
Thanks for looking!
Thanks for looking!
Nicely done...as always!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great unit, and your painting style is up to the challenge!
Great looking unit and really nice paint job. Well done!
ReplyDeletePaul,
ReplyDeleteGo pour yourself a cold one you deserve it.
They look even better now that the bases are completed.
nice work paul, they look great
ReplyDeleteFantastic. I'm more than a little inspired by your decision to paint whole units at a go - I'm going to have to try and do this. Lovely work on the grens, as always.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteHow many figures have your batalion?
Very nice job.
As always Paul your work in 15mm is simply excellent!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Excellent job on these guys!
ReplyDeleteJason
Superb work Paul! I have some Pavlov's waiting in my own painting queue and now I'm tempted to do them next.
ReplyDeleteAs above, superb painting , keep it coming!!
ReplyDeleteHi Paul,
ReplyDeleteThey look wonderful. I've had a battalion of these (using BH grenadiers in mitres) sitting for some time.
One thing - when I was working on mine awhile ago I asked about officers' headgear on TMP. the consensus was that the officers moved from bircornes to kiwers while the rank and file retained the mitre.
Of course if I had your battalion and anyone objected to my officers I'd invite the whinger to leave the premises! I think they look great!
Malc
That's very much everyone,
ReplyDeleteI am very pleased you like them.
Sergio, there are 32 figures to the full strength Russian battalions in the GdB rules and we just take away a few figures if the campaign requires less.
John, I has a cold czech beer while posting (a kind of ritual now, should have been Baltika but the czech beer as on offer and Mai bought it ;0)
Hi Malc, I read the same however I have it in my head that some of the brave officers would wish to wear the mitre and keep their whiskers. If it concerns people it is just 1 of those things.
Thanks again everyone
Best
Paul
Fantastic unit, Paul. Impressively displayed. Love the attention you gave all of the figures. Best, Dean
ReplyDeleteUp to your usual brilliant standard, Paul. Brilliant stuff!
ReplyDeleteThey are beauties Paul well done
ReplyDeleteHaven't had much chance for a catch up on the blogs ;ate;y, but this was a lovely surprise. Excellent job!
ReplyDeleteGreat effort as usual - I meant to ask you earlier but what make of static grass mixture do you use? It appears to be two colour? Another point is that I use a bottle to get the grass to stand up but it never seems to work as well as yours.
ReplyDeleteAlmost missed these, absolutely brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much again guys, I am struggling also to catch up with everyones blogs as I am trying to stick to the painting tabe when I have free time.
ReplyDeleteKen the static grass we use is the summer mix from woodland scenics (is that how you spell it?). We use it as it is a perfect match to the GW battlemats.
Best
Paul
Great looking unit Paul!
ReplyDeleteStunning work! Could you tell me how you did the flags? Or where you sourced them?
ReplyDeleteHi Zsavk, the flags were given to me many moons ago. Just cut out. White glued in place. Touch of super glue top and bottom ti hold them in place. Touchedvuo the edges and them white glue all over. Hope that helps and sorry fir the delay. Dont do my blog now.
