It would seem that it isn't just Cameron and myself who are working through BH Austrians at the moment. Turns out my buddy Robert is finishing off some of his Austrian lead pile too.
This is his 1st effort with Army Painter dark tone (he is apparently not convinced yet).
I think they are nice, an extra light highlight would have really brought them to life but Robert said he just wanted them finished. I have been battering through my Austrian artillery battery a Hungarian infantry battalion and also a Grenz battalion. I'll post some pics soon.
I am kicking the Sh**e out of myself for spending my whole life brush painting my undercoats. Since spray undercoating in white for the infantry and black for the grenz I have saved many, many, many hours. Many tears have been shed over those lost hours and more will come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will endeavour to convince my brother, nephew and friends to stop brushing on undercoat as it is just a complete waste of time!!!!!!!!!! No smoother finish and you can always cover the wee area you missed after. Sure the Manufacturer will charge you and arm a leg and yer left bollock for that tiny can but when you can spray a 48 man battalion skull white and can continue painting in 2 hours who cares?
My recent drive to finish off the 15mil Napoleonic armies has entailed (will entail for a while yet!) painting Battle Honours Austrians, but they were bought when battle Honours were the original company before the Tony Barton exodus! They were bought in around 1990 (?).
ReplyDeleteI still like'em and they still hld up well against the newer AB and Battle Honours (US) figures. BTW, it appears quite a few of the current BH figures are different to the originals, which makes me wonder who did the resculpts.
Those came out real good and look at all the time you saved!!

ReplyDeleteI agree fully, can not understand the brush on primer group. Prime spray white, block colors, army Painter, highlights, that is the way to go.

ReplyDeleteI have to tell you this isn't my figures it is my buddy Roberts, he has the biggest Naps collection I have ever seen 18,000 plus and after I started using the Army Painter on my Saxons he thought he would give it a go on his Austrians.
I'll post some pics of my Austrians soon. I am doing the Hungarian branch of the army and my buddy Cameron is doing the german branch. Spray basecoat rules!!!!

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't go white undercoat either, it just means I have to go over the deep areas in black anyway.
Muskets would have to be re painted in black as well.

These are a buddies figures RB, I spray my saxons light grey. Yip I agree with you tyre having to block in the musket, shako etc, it's a pain. Then again getting a nice finish on a white uniform on a black undercoat is also a pain as you will know. Have a look at my Saxons and WIP section and you'll see how I'm going about it now, not perfect but I'm trying. Would love to see how you get on with your Austrians, I have austrians to paint in the future.
