4th Silesian Landwehr Regiment WIP1

And so another project has begun . . .

If you follow my blog you may have seen that I had won a competition on Dan Dunbar's blog to have a 24 man unit painted by him for free!!! And also my 1st order would have a 10% discount, Great!!!
so I decided to purchase and clean up a small army of Prussian Landwehr sending them off to Oz . . .

And last week I received a package in the post from Dan, it contained roughly 120something Landwehr figures that Dan had painted for me. All were very nicely done in the colours I wanted and so I set about preparing them to be turned into their battalions and to finish them in my own style. Above the troops already based in their painting groups.

I've started with the 2nd battalion and will be adding in a number of command and enthusiastic figures to make up the numbers.

Today I finished off 11 figures, I blocked areas I felt needed care and used Dan's painting as my base coats adding different coloured hair and various light shades for linen etc. The battalions will be a mix of AB reserve and landwehr figures to give better variation to the battalions and to show the transformation the uniform of the 4th Silesian landwehr went through up till 1815. 

I painted on the White landwehr cross to help make the reserve figures above look less reserve.

So far I'm really happy how they are coming together and a huge thanks to Dan for painting them for me!!!

The only thing is I keep on getting an urge to paint Saxon garde du corp and zastrow kuirassiers!!! It's doing my head in as I want to tick off the 4 battalions of landwehr within the next month or 2 . . .

    Start the units you like - reward progress on the Prussians with equal time on the Saxons!

      I'm afraid it has to be the prussians 1st, need to break the back of them before moving over to the pretty fellas

    Your landwehr look fabulous. What is better than the yellow-faced Silesians to bring color to the Prussian mob. Nothing!

    They look great. 120 models? Three whole battalions? Thats a hefty reinforcement column that will look even better based and fighting the French.

    Good luck in staying focused and resisting the hobby butterfly deamon. Your a better man than me if you can resist it.

      Thanks Martin, I'll be splitting them up between 4 battalions and adding in command and extras to finish them off. Yeah it's difficult to resist however these guys need done.

    Looking very good! Faced with 120 Landwehr, finish them and then do the glorious Saxon Heavy cavalry as a reward!

    Looking great Paul. Dan does do a lovely job, doesn't he. As far as the Saxons, I always try to have those kind of units as a reward for getting through the less captivating masses. I've currently got some french guard lancers which I'll be starting as soon as I've finished the three line battalions I'm working on.
    Those saxon heavies are lovely, aren't they.

      Sounds like a good plan, yeah the saxon heavies are stunning, flag men will be a challenge to convert.

    Dan did a great job on these and adding your personal touch to fit in with the rest of you units. As a few others said finish the Prussians and use painting the Saxons as a reward. Of course as a reward you get to paint a slew of horses. Good luck with that.

    Just saw this post, you did a good job with the touch ups, nice figs, they will be nice based up, the Saxon heavies will be a treat to paint.

      Hi Dan, Thanks I'm almost finished a battalion now on the command figures. Finding it no bother matching your colours. Looking forward to the saxons but it will be a good while away. Thanks again!
