The past couple of days when I had an hour or 2 I've been finishing off the bases of my von Liebenau grenadier battalion for 1812. I apologise about the picture quality as I'm just starting to get to know our little pink digital camera again since picking up a new laptop. Those of you who know Saxons of the period will know that for 1813 I can add in 2 companies of grenadiers from the yellow faced regiments to make 1 of the combined grenadier battalions and that's what I plan to do at some point this year.
This is my 4th Saxon battalion finished and I'm coming close with a battalion from the von Rechten battalion so if I can get that ticked off that will technically be a full brigade. I say technically as I have went astray with the facing colours doing battalions from all 4 brigades. I do plan to correct this over the coming year.
I'm also looking for an alternative to the 1 mounted saxon officer pose and I think the new French mounted commander mayfit the bill although I'm not 100% sure who will make the best Saxon head swap victim???
This is an NCO from the new French line with a Saxon grenadier head pinned in place, I think he works pretty well in his new role.
Now seeing the battalion all based up I'm pretty happy now that the troops have the full dress plume and fittings on the shako as in 18mm it certainly will help them stand out from the crowd.
A wee rear shot. The turn backs of the Saxon grenadiers should have little green grenades sewn on however I wasn't keen on how they were looking as most of the turn backs are partially hidden so I've left them off. So slow progress on my Saxon army, I'm Looking forward to doing some of the more exciting elements of the army, the light cavalry, light troops, artillery and command.
Hopefully I'll get the 5th battalion finished soon!
Happy Wargaming!!!
Top brushwork Paul!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Raymondo!
DeleteThose look magnificent Paul! I'm really looking forward to trying out my first AB figures.
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thanks very much Christopher, what AB are you going to be buying?
DeleteGreat looking grenadiers Paul, really enjoying seeing the Saxon project progress.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Jacksarge glad your enjoying it. I'm having fun with them now.
DeleteStriking Saxon grenadiers, Paul! No one does an AB better!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan, that's really kind of you. I'm sure there are loads and loads but I do appreciate your encouragement.
DeletePrettiest 15mm Saxon Grenadier's ever seen - lovely contrast of red plumes over white uniforms and green facings...
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil, bowled over by your encouraging comments! I think you and the other guys doing 28's are impossible to match.
DeleteLooking splendid, Paul. The Saxons are a fun army for a painter!
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter, yes I'm really enjoying the colour combinations with the white now.
DeleteFar from slow, but definitely very good! Look forward to the commander head swap!
ReplyDeleteCheers Ru, need to get the figures from oz 1st, need to do something or every battalion and brigade command will have the same mounted officer.
DeleteGreat work Paul!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ian, very much appreciated!!!
DeleteGreat work Paul! Nice to see the grenadiers painted up as I'm soon moving to the same unit! You've set an excellent standard to strive for when I'm working on mine!
ReplyDeleteThanks Samuli, I have a look at yours often, there isn't that much difference between mine and yours and yours are finished an awful lot faster.
DeleteGot to love Saxons! Smashing work Paul!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rodger, they are a pretty army to own!
DeleteLovely work again Paul. The coloured lapels etc. on the Saxon regiments certainly makes them incredibly striking!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Carlo, yes it's 1 of my favourite uniforms now
DeleteNicely done. Shame the new Bardin uiform French don't have shako covers on (yet?) as they'd do for quite a few German units unless you're prepared to trim countless shako plates.
ReplyDeleteWill you eventually do some of the Saxon heavy cavalry?
Thanks Gary, yes it's a shame. I plan to do the light cavalry soon as there are only 3 regiments of importance. The heavies can wait.
DeleteMagnificent, wonderful details!
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil, hip you guys are getting plenty of games in!
DeleteSaid it before Paul the bar keeps lifting higher !
ReplyDeleteRegards Gav .

ReplyDeleteThanks very much valleyboy, I'm hoping I get a good sized force together by the end of the year.
DeleteA great result with those pretty Saxons Paul.
ReplyDeleteSalute
von Peter himself
Thanks very much Von Peter, I'm round all the houses with the facing colours at the moment but I'll hopefully start matching them into proper brigades.
DeleteStunning. Just received my 6th Scenario book. Can't wait to see some photos of Saxons in action Paul!
ReplyDeleteThanks Craig, I've not seen the book in the flesh yet, I seen the front cover online. Hopefully buy it over the next month or 2. I'll get my 1st look at it at the end of March as the guys are putting on a couple of games. Wil be nice to see how they used the pictures.
