French Artillery

I'm still a bit slow on my updates although I'm busy painting away. I have completed a couple of no frills French artillery batteries.

They were repainted from figures I'd picked up over the years. Pretty much total repaints to be honest.

I used Andrea paints for the blues and they worked really well. I describe them in the wee video I did. I left out a highlight on the guard horse artillery to see how much of a difference it made and in 18mm not much.

I'm glad to get these wee guys out the way. I had them sitting around staring at me from the workbench for a good while.

Just a little flirtation with my French army as I've moved back to Prussians. The Falkirk lads are planning on Waterloo again this year so I'm using the event as motivation.

Still pretty happy with these wee guys. The braid came out fine and the overall effect on the base looks cool with flowers etc.

I'll try and get another post up soon. I've finished a landwehr battalion and I'm onto a 2nd and final silesian landwehr battalion.

Happy Wargaming!

    1. Thanks very much Calbourne, the stripped trousers are a wee bit of fun. Makes the units look a bit more interesting. I'm guessing the guys with epaulettes are Grenadiers with artillery pompoms?

  10. They look great. With the Guard HA in particular, the fine detailing you have done on the braid makes highlighting the dark blue pretty superfluous!

    1. Thanks very much Peter, yeah I agree. Trying t get more troops in the field by cutting back on the highlights.

  12. Excellent Paul
Makes me want to stop painting 28mm SYW Prussians and do some of my waiting 15mm Napoleonic French..... but then some daft sod will show me something else and I'll want to change my mind again!

  13. Very nice work!!! Your work is very inspirational, and I must admit spending to much time probably looking at the pictures of minis on your blog:)
Also, i think the blue you have chosen for the French is probably colser to the "real thing" than most other stuff I have seen (incuding my own!!).
    Cheers!

    1. Many thanks Erik, glad you enjoy the minis buddy. It's tough with the blues. So many to choose from. I like the tone of the Andrea blues a lot and the coverage is very good.
