So I have at long last finished another Saxon battalion. This is the 2nd battalion of the Prinz Clemens regiment. I believe the 1st Saxon battalion I painted was the 1st battalion of this regiment so that's the regiment completed.
A wee video on the finished bits and what else I have on the go.
I've added in an NCO to the battalion converted from the newer AB French set. He's a fair bit bigger than the older Saxon range however he still fits in pretty well.
I've again tried to give a bit of variety to the unit by doing different colours of trousers and mixing up my shades of white on the uniforms and belts.
I also added in a converted officer in the blue/grey uniform that was apparently frequently used on campaign. I started off a bit too warm on it and I'm not 100% happy how he turned out, however within the battalion he'll mingle and do fine.
What next? Well I've cleaned up another Saxon battalion and I'm painting some Saxon skirmishers and an ADC that I've converted.
They are all wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBest Regards,
Stokes
Thanks very much stokes, it's good to have them done!
DeleteHello Paul
ReplyDeleteWatching your Saxon recruiting going so well makes me envious. All power to your highly cultured and superbly educated brush! 8O)

von Peter himself
Thanks very much Von P, would like to see them finished but still a good 2ay off yet.
DeleteThose are very well done again Paul
ReplyDeleteI particularly like your basing though, I think its probably hard not to overdo it this scale but you really have based them well
Thanks Valleyboy, and the basing is very simple. Easiest buy if a little time consuming.
DeleteSuperb work again Paul!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Chasseur, always good to get another little bit done.
DeleteExcellent as always Paul!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Phil, I keep plodding away with them!
DeleteStunning as ever Paul!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Jamie, hope yer projects are going well!
DeleteStunning as always. Guard will provide a nice dash of colour amongst the Saxons!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ru, I have the head swaps done, I really only need to tidy the necks and add epaulettes but I've cleaned another regular battalion fir speed. I'll get them done before the end of the year I'd say.
DeleteWonderful work as ever! I do wonder about the grief that chap in the red striped pants must get from his mess mates though... :-)
ReplyDeleteLol thanks Millsy, yes that could well be an issue.
DeleteThose are fantastic Paul - just SO good!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Ian, you still busy with hh naps?
DeleteAmazing as always! Loved the striped trousers. i'll be back to the Napoleonics soon
ReplyDeleteThanks Colbourne, that's good to hear buddy!
DeleteExcellent as usual Paul!
ReplyDeleteI may have missed it, but where did that rather nice Grenadier guard officer come from - conversion?
DB
Thanks very much David, yes he's a conversion. He's from the newish 1812-15 bardin French mounted officer with a headswap from the French guards in greatcoat.
DeleteWunderbar, Paul!
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter 😊
DeleteOnce more congratulations! Magnificent miniatures, excellent painting and a great staging. Cordial greetings from the distant Argentine Republic, Carlos
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Carlo, glad you like them and thanks for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment
DeleteHi there
ReplyDeleteBeen admiring many of your figure uploads for some time now...impressive painting. Briefly, of course, could you outline a basic procedure to your painting method? Undercoat, multi shades for one colour hue, that sort of thing? Do you use Army Painter? Highlights after AP (if you use)?
Thanks for any time considering my post. These are sterling 15 mm Naps out there on the internet that you paint!
Kind regards
Ross
Hi Ross sorry for not getting back sooner, haven't been around the blog.
DeleteFor Saxons I base coat in a very light grey.
Block in base colours flesh
For white uniform I choose if it will be warm or cold white.
Block in Iraqi sand warm
And use the base grey for cold.
Block in the facing colours then do fine detail.
Then I bring the shades lighter with chosen mid tones with colours over selected mixed. Pale sand and ivory for warm.
Highlight the facing colours and belts then gave with miss then highlights.
Then finish all the details and highlights.
Hard to explain as I have colours I use for each party and mostly mix.
Hope that's of us.
Cheers
Paul
