Lutzen : The Prussian Charge

On 27th March 2016, Easter Sunday my nephew David and myself were lucky enough to be invited along to the Falkirk Wargames Club held in Grangemouth to take part in a day of Napoleonic gaming. There were 2 battles on the go at once, 2 tables of 1813 Napoleonic goodness.

Below is a short YouTube video from Table No.1

Or if your not keen on videos I've also included a good number of pictures below.

A view from the French positions at the start of the game.

The famous photographer Peter watching the initial Prussian advance.

Good to see my Silesians in action. Games like this are a great way to see what you still need to paint to complete your collection and surprisingly for my Prussians I'm not so very far off.

Also my recently finished Saxon terrain got a look in on both tables.

Alisdair and Karl the Prussian commanders discuss tactics.

My Old Glory 1st West Prussians getting in on the action. These are some of my earliest figures from when I picked up on Naps again a few years back and I'm still really fond of them.

Some French looking to be on their way out the back of a village.

Some of the Falkirk gang on Table No.1

Blucher leading the troops into battle, it's great to see him finally getting a proper run out!!!

Silesian hussars getting hit by a mystery enemy hussar unit?

Another mystery enemy unit???

The Prussians pushing on through.

An overview of the action as it unfolds.

The French under pressure.

A pretty impressive Prussian steamroller.

Is there anything more impressive than the Prussian army of 1813???

The guys looking over the end table.

At the end of the game everything had ground to a halt.

The final result, a very hard fought draw.

So that was game No.1 and hopefully over the next week or 2 I'll get a chance to put pictures up from game No.2 that I took part in.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures,
Happy Wargaming!!!

Excellent work, Paul! Nothing like seeing masses of troops on the table, especially of such high quality paintwork.

I haven't visited for quite a while, it seems; loving the new banner to the blog!

Great looking game. I believe the mystery infantry are Grand Duchy of Berg - there were 4 such regiments, IIRC.

Having a game on Easter Sunday would be highly unusual in the US, I must say. not that I would have anything against it!

Thanks Gav, it was great to see them out on the table and the terrain being useful!

Thanks Peter, the lad who owns them for some reason didn't know a lot of his troops. He seems to buy painted figures by the bucket load and use them as is. Thanks for sorting that out!

Yes it is definitely the changing times. Mai and I celebrated Easter on Saturday and Sunday evening.

Nice ti see you mr Rosbif, yeah I kept missing your posts to. It's the problem with having a long blog list, you miss at times if lots of people post at the same time. Sorry. Thanks very much with the banner.

Thanks VP, this was the prettiest of the 2 games, ours was more of a guard steam roller.

That's what it's all about Paul, getting the toys out and having a fun game.

Great to see your kit in action amongst some good looking scenery.

A great looking game...with splendid units!

This is wonderful! little soldiers in 15 mm AB are the best suited to play the Napoleonic period, and since these figures are painted with great quality, have resulted in a magnificent wargame table. Congratulations and greetings from distant Argentine Republic. Carlos

Hello Paul

The gaming here is on a slow burn at the moment in several different periods. Sharp Practice 2 is published on the 23 of this month - perhaps - and that may well kick off some skirmish gaming and there has been talk of a GdeB game.

Superb looking game an units. Where did you get the plastic order chits for GDB ?

Paulalba said...

Glad you enjoyed it sarge! The chits were commissioned from figures in comfort in the uk for the big Waterloo game the guys put on last year. I believe Alisdair painted the inner sections of the chits. Very nice they are to.

Good luck with the Gaming VP, my own gaming seems to be in stops and starts depending on life commitments and work.

Paulalba said...

Thanks you very much Carlo, you are always very encouraging. My poor nephew was unfortunate as he was in a very difficult situation with a mountain of French guard coming at him.

Thanks Jeremy,
It was good fun to be part!

Great video Paul, even if the soundtrack was a little incongruous! The images on the video are really good and give a better sense of the game in action.

Thanks Craig,
Yeah the music doesn't really fit the battles but they are free lol. I know I could hunt down some sounds but they do. I'm glad you enjoyed the pics, it's nice to have had the chance to get everything out. Also inspired to get more done especially as it's our chosen timescale!

Hope your getting plenty of and enjoying your gaming!
