Typhoon Haiyan Tacloban

Hellish, Hellish, 2 evenings.

The super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) hit the philippine city Tacloban and the Visayas region where my wife is from late last night.

We somehow managed to get through to Mai's home phone around 11pm (7am their time) last night. The roof of their home had been torn off in areas and her family were huddled in a room that still had a roof. Everyone was terrified as you can imagine. All the phones are down now and it is an agonizing wait. My wife has family all over Tacloban city.

Mai is listening to the DZMM live feed at the moment and the 1st Herc has just landed at the airport in San Jose. The runway is intact but the area is devastated and they have started to find some poor souls who have not survived.

If any of you guys are religious could you please say a prayer for the family of my wife and the people of the Philippines.

thanks
Paul

My thoughts and prayers are with them Paul. When I saw the news yesterday , I thought of you and Mai not even knowing that she and her family were from the Tacloban area.
Good luck.

Best wishes

Hi Paul,

I can imagine the worry you are going through. My brother and his family was caught up in the 2004 Tsunami, so I know what waiting for news feels like.

I hope everything turns out ok, best wishes to you all, Jonathan

Hi Paul,
I think I understand the worry you and your family must be feeling right now. My brother and his family were caught up in the 2004 tsunami and it is horrible waiting for news.

Best wishes to you and your family. I really hope everything turns out well.

Sincere best wishes to all over there, Paul. We've had a number of typhoons lash the Japanese mainland and offshore islands recently, and the damage has been fearsome. And these were nothing like that hitting the Philippines.

Our prayers are with everyone there, and we're making a financial contribution too.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers everyone. Mai got news that here aunt and niece where air lifted to Cebu from San Jose. Still no news of the rest of the family.

The poor families who stayed by the coast. We just feel so helpless but have to stay positive.

A truly horrible situation for you mate. Having been through something similar here is Oz with the bushfires just recently I think I have some small idea what you're feeling. Our thoughts and best wishes are with you. Stay strong!

Hi Paul, I hope everything turns out well for Mai's family. When I saw the reports I thought of you both. I didn't know her family were in the epicentre of the trouble. Lets look forward to some good news for her.

Thanks so much everyone, So far we have Learned VandG phase 5 where mai's sister and 2 of her brothers plus kids and more of the family where sheltered was least hit with no causualties. The 2 other family homes of her brothers we don't know yet but are away from the shore so we are remaining positive however Mai has many relatives in tacloban.

Mai's aunt (88) and her family survived on the roof if their house just at the start of San Jose on the way to the airport. The area is devastated there. Every house will be damaged in some way maybe totally. I feel for the poor souls who have nit survived and who have lost loved ones.

Again thanks for everyones support
