Saxon Liebenau Grenadiers WIP1

I've made some good progress on my latest Saxon battalion. This time I'm trying to tie things together and this 1 is a grenadier battalion for 1812, Liebenau grenadier battalion. This if I remember was made up of 2 companies of grenadiers from the Prinz Friedrich August and 2 companies from Prinz Clemens (also Steindel depending on the date) regiment in 1812. This is also a starter for a grenadier battalion for 1813 as I can take 1 company from each and add them to a company each of Von Rechten plus Maximillian to create an 1813 combined grenadier battalion (who's name evades me at the moment, von Spiegel if I remember right?).

I have only 4 command figures to do and they will be ready to base. I've really enjoyed painting them, the different shades for the white and also the grey overall trousers has been fun and not hard to do and I'm looking forward to the next battalion.

This is the white buttoned companies of Steindel. Once these guys are finished I'll actually have 2 battalions that were in the same brigade! Due to my stupidity I painted 3 battalions with 3 different facing colours that were not brigade together and the stupid thing it's I knew this when I did them!!! So now I have to try and forget all the pretty facing colours and work towards specific brigades (but yellow facings would look so nice).

Anyway that's my progress for the moment, I hope everyone is doing well with their project!

Also if anyone is interested there is a cracking Facebook group called Tabletop Commanders, Its a closed group so you'll have to add yourself to join. It's a really friendly community, very positive for the hobby and full of very helpful people plus they do live paint and chats during the week as well as live gaming that gives you the chance to see how different rule sets play. It's surprising how much it can help you keep focused with painting when your sitting chatting with likeminded folks. Some nights after work I cant be bothered to pick up the brushes and this is when I've found it most helpful! It was started by Kurtus Brown and here is the link:

Happy wargaming!!!

It's looking like another great Saxon battalion for your collection Paul. Those AB figures really are little gems and these ones are lucky enough to get a matching paint job.

I have the 1813 Grenadier Battalion von Spiegel in my future plans ... if a should live long enough! 8O)

Thanks Von Peter, think positive man you will have the whole entire Saxon army finished before you wave goodbye to the little men. I read your blog regularly VP however sometimes I struggle to leave comments with iPad and iPhone?

Hello Paul

Count me as well chuffed that you read my blog. Thanks. But then again I always thought you an above average sort of guy! 8O)

Regarding problems posting comments ... I have no comment, or rather have nothing useful to say! I have spoken to one other 'blogger' user who had the same difficulties but surely that is not the problem in itself. Surely!! From my own experience posting comments on sites when I wish to identify myself using my Wordpress identity I cannot do so unless I am logged into Wordpress so that the comment receiving system can validate that I am who I purport to be. So iHopefully that makes sense.

I'd like to think that your use of Apple products is not the source of your problem. We are an Apple 'shop' here. I mostly use an iMac to deal with the blog but have also been know to use an iPod Touch which to all intents is an iPhone minus the phone bit.

It would be a little annoying if people are having problems posting comments as these comments boost one's ego and help oil the wheels that produce the next post! 8O))

Thanks Fins,
You know how it is, you wonder how your going to get round so much white but they are actually pretty straight forward to paint. I'd say using the Vallejo paints is a lot to do with it. The buffs, light creams and white work very well.

Thanks Francis, that is a mega compliment!!! However there are so many good 15's painters about but thanks I really appreciate it!

Well VP I found your original Prussian's online years ago, your Brandenburg hussars and I know you changed format at 1 point and I couldn't get the links to go to each section and tried plenty of times to find your Russians and Prussian's using the older post option. Was great to see your newest entries and was wowed by your Saxons in yellow( can't remember if they were rechten or maximillian. Was nice to hear the son and heir slowly came over from the dark side to help you at times with your collection! I'm always pleased to see the latest calpe releases and I purchased leggieres books on 1813 after reading your review and doing a wee bit extra research.

With the comments, I have no idea, although iPhone iPad is Apple is word not a Microsoft product, I can comment on burkhard and o think you both use the same format?

However I now have a laptop so can view your page on that, I just have to remember as I get the alerts on me phone. Keep on with the Saxons VP!!!

It was your Saxons that first caught my eye a few years ago. I thought - "Wow. This bloke is an artist." But astonishingly your output just keeps improving. I am really enjoying watching your Saxon force come to life Paul. And I really appreciate the warm and inclusive way that you engage with the readers of this and other blogs/fora (plural of forum ;) ). Keep up the terrific work! Craig

Thanks Craig, not sure I'd say I'm an artist but it's fun putting the armies together. I'm glad you have seen the improvement over time. I tried to many different ways to get more done and have came full circle. I'm enjoying painting the same way I did as a teenager, hope it continues.
